Overview
The Optica Quantum Industry Summit brought together leading quantum technology enablers and adopters in Bristol. Q*Bird was thrilled to contribute to the discussions shaping the next phase of quantum-secure communication.
Session overview:
Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is emerging as a cornerstone of quantum-safe communications, providing provable security against both classical and quantum attacks. In this session, leading innovators will showcase the latest advances in QKD technologies and their integration into real-world networks. Discussion will cover deployment challenges, system performance, and opportunities for scaling QKD into critical sectors such as finance, telecom, and government. Attendees will gain practical insight into how QKD is moving from research to commercially viable, network-ready solutions.
Speakers include:
- Simon Patkovic, VP, Quantum-Safe Solutions, ID Quantique
- Victor Gomis, BD Director, LuxQuanta
- Tommaso Occhipinti, Co-Founder & CEO, QTI SRL
- Joshua Slater, Co-Founder & CTO, Q.Bird BV
- Francesco Raffaelli, CTO, KETS Quantum Security
- Aaron Albores Meija, CEO, CUbIQ
Our CTO, Joshua A. Slater, PhD, addressed during Session 4, “Quantum-Safe Communications (QKD Technologies)” on how our MDI QKD Falqon® Series enables scalable and interoperable quantum-secure communication and deployment-ready architectures for real-world networks.
Joshua shared the operational advantages of MDI QKD and how it positions organisations for long-term quantum resilience.
Hosted by the University of Bristol, Quantum Frontier, Invest Bristol & Bath and West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, Optica Quantum Industry Summit is the premier annual event for leaders in quantum and the epicenter of collaboration, innovation and quantum advancement. The Summit once again reinforced a key message, the shift toward quantum-secure communication is accelerating, and organisations are preparing now for quantum-risk mitigation and long-term cryptographic resilience.
Q*Bird is proud to help lead this transition by delivering MDI QKD solution that is scalable, interoperable and built for the networks of today and tomorrow!
A huge thank you to Jon Pugh, Technical Director for PIC and Quantum at Optica, Jose Pozo, CTO at Optica and the core Optica team for hosting us, and to our Q*Birder Aidan Campbell, PhD, for the onsite support and discussions!
Stay tuned for more updates as we share our journey toward a safer quantum-powered future!
